Frequently asked questions
- Is the picture scaled down at all?
- No. Cropping only removes pixels from the edges; everything that survives is untouched, so the result is exactly as sharp as the original. Tools that scale as part of cropping quietly cost you detail.
- Can I choose which part of the photo is kept?
- The crop is centered. That is the right answer for aspect-ratio work — fitting a 16:9 frame or a 1:1 avatar — but if the subject sits off to one side you will want an editor with a draggable frame instead.
- Which ratio does Instagram, YouTube or a Story need?
- 1:1 or 4:5 for an Instagram feed post, 9:16 for Stories, Reels and TikTok, 16:9 for YouTube. Each of the presets above has its own page explaining where the requirement comes from.
- What happens if the ratio is wider than my photo?
- The other axis is trimmed instead. The tool keeps the largest rectangle of that shape that fits inside your image, so you never end up with padding you did not ask for.
