Burn after reading
Some things should exist exactly once: a password handed to a new colleague, a recovery code, an address given to somebody who needs it today. Chat apps and email are the opposite of that — they keep a copy on every device, in every backup, and in whatever the recipient's employer archives. A link that deletes itself on first read leaves the message nowhere except in the head of the person who read it.

What to expect
Opening the link destroys the server copy immediately, so the recipient gets exactly one chance to read it. Note that link-preview bots in chat apps cannot trigger this — the note is only fetched after an explicit click on the page.
