Password protected text
A link on its own is a single point of failure: forwarded, screenshotted or pulled out of a chat backup, it opens for anyone. Adding a passphrase that you pass along some other way — spoken aloud, sent over a different app — means an intercepted link is useless on its own. This is the standard advice for sharing credentials, and it costs one extra message.

What to expect
The passphrase is mixed into the encryption key in your browser, so it is never sent to us and we cannot reset it. If the recipient does not have it, the text cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.
